Spirit of the Andes Journey

- Day 1. Friday, November 7. To Cusco / Pizaq / Welcome Dinner

– Depart for the airport and check in for your flight to Cusco.
AM – Depart Lima on ______________________ for your 1-hour morning flight to Cusco, over the spectacular Andes Mountains. As you fly into Cusco, colorful ancient capital of the Inca Empire, you are greeted by the towering "Apus" (mountains) with their shimmering caps of snow.
10:30 AM - Arrive Cusco, the ancient capital of the Inca Empire, and today a Mecca for spiritual seekers in Peru. Deplane and gather with your group in the baggage claim area. Walk slowly and breathe deeply! You’re at 11,300 ft! Pick up your luggage & depart the baggage claim area, where you will meet your Tour Guides Leif & Diego. Board your private bus and transfer to your hotel in the beautiful town of Pisac, about 40 minutes outside of Cusco.
11:30 AM – Arrive at the Paz y Luz Retreat Center.  Take the rest of the afternoon to rest and acclimatize to the change in altitude. We HIGHLY recommend that you go to your room, and lie down for 3 or 4 hours in order to give your body time to adjust to the change in altitude. Activity at this point can cause headaches and nausea – not pleasant!

- Day 2. Saturday, November 8.  Pisac & The First Ceremony

10:30AM - Pisaq Ruins – Be sure to bring your daypack to hold your camera, bottled water, power objects, your journal and pen(s), and a snack if you will need it. You will definitely need a sun hat each day. AND…remember to use 30-strength sunscreen!
Be in the lobby ready to depart to the ancient solar observatory at Pisac. You first enter the site through the ancient Temple of the Condor, where Diego will lead the group in a sacred ceremony to invoke the power of the Condor, totem of the HananPacha, the Upper World. You then walk along the winding trail, full of magnificent vistas of the hills and valleys below, to the most sacred area of the site, the ancient Sun Temple. We enjoy time here, as Diego points out the various important features; then you gather for a group meditation to focus our individual and collective energies for personal and planetary healing. Return to the bus and the village of Pisac at the foot of the mountain.

-Day 3. Sunday, November 9. Rest & Integration / Pisaq Market

2:00 PM – Visit & shop in the famous Pisaq Artesian Market. On Sundays that the locals set up a mercado de treque (trade market). This market dates back to the ancient Peruvian days where Peruvians in the highlands depended on trade. Here, you can haggle for goods such as jewelry, traditional instruments, hand made alpaca goods, woven blankets and other fine handy crafts. It is also a wonderful place to take photos.

-Day 4. Monday, November 10. Morai & The Second Ceremony

10:00 AM - Visit Moray terraces – You continue on through the lush green valley to visit the very mysterious area of Moray, where a series of perfectly placed concentric circles, each one slightly smaller than the next, creates a deep indentation in the ground. Surrounded by the mountains of the Sacred Valley you will walk down to the center of the enigmatic energy vortex to connect with the spirit of the Pachamama (Mother Earth).
11:30 AM - Visit Salinas of Maras – We will visit the Salinas (salt mines) of Maras where the inhabitants of Maras and Pichin go to make the entire process of natural salt extraction.
1:30 PM - Lunch at Urabumba– At a local Restaurant (Uribumba)
4:00 PM - Return to Pisaq – Rest & Relaxation
8:00 PM - Intention Ceremony
9:00 PM - Second Ayahuasca Ceremony


-Day 5. Tuesday, November 11. Chiratiri / Rest & Integration

2:00 PM – Visit the indigenous community of Chiratiri. Many visitors to Peru often end up doing the same traditional tours and rarely get the chance to meet and experience the real life led by many families in the villages of the Andes. We will travel by car along a winding road high above the sacred valley to the beautiful Quechua community of Chiratiri. This traditional community is renowned for is high quality handy crafts and textiles as well as its incredibly generous hospitality. This is a wonderful opportunity to see how people live in the high Andes.  It is also amazing to witness the incredible skill and work involved in making their unique products.

-Day 6. Wednesday, November 12. Casa Milagros/Third Ceremony

10:30AM – Visit Casa de Milagros. Casa de Milagros (House of Miracles) is a children's home in the Sacred Valley near historic Machu Picchu, Peru. It was founded by an amazing woman named Mama Kia to heal the mind, body and spirit of many of the thousands of orphaned and abandoned children living in poverty on the streets of Cusco, Peru and surrounding towns.  This amazing family will touch your heart. It is truly a house of Miracles.

3:30 PM – Arrive at the ‘Hana kapacha’ Retreat Center
4:00 PM - Move into new Rooms.

-Day 7. Thursday, November, 13 .Ollantaytambo/Rest & Integration

2:00 PMVisit Ollantaytambo - Drive to Ollantaytambo, the Sanctuary of the Wind, an Inca fortress/temple that is one of the most impressive in Peru. First, you visit the royal baths/fountains and perform a shamanic energy cleansing ceremony led by Wilaru, using Unu, the Water element. Then walk beside the nearby gurgling stream to an area of the site that is not visited by many people - the Temple of the Condor - for a time of silent meditation and reflection, followed by a journaling opportunity. Finally we end our afternoon at the main altar area of the temple, where we receive our blessings from Wayra, Wind – the guardian of the site.

-Day 8. Friday, November 14 . Aguas Caliantes & Machu Picchu

6:30 AM – Bus to Train Station.
7:00 AM - Board the train to Machu Picchu and travel alongside the wild Urubamba River deep into the mountain valleys of the high jungle on your approximately 1 1/2-hour trip.
10:00 AM - Arrive at Aguas Calientes, the small village at the base of Machu Picchu and quickly check-in at hotel. Then you’re finally on your way, as we take the bus up to Machu Picchu, the Crystal City and 8th Wonder of the World. You're finally here, at one of the most hidden-away and mysterious places on earth. The group will have a tour this morning with Diego and a professional guide from the site to visit the Temples of the Sun & Moon, the Temple of the Condor, the Temple of the Three Windows, and finally the world-famous energetic center of the site, the Intihuatana, or the Hitching Post of the Sun. Afterwards, you enjoy a delicious lunch at the on-site hotel, accompanied by the joyful music of local Andean musicians. After lunch you re-enter the Sanctuary with Wilaru for a special Shamanic Healing Ceremony. The day ends in the dying light of the late afternoon as you board the bus for the return down the mountain to Aguas Calientes and your hotel. If you have time, take a leisurely soak in the local hot springs before your group dinner at one of the local restaurants. (Time to meet in the hotel lobby for dinner TBA).

-Day 9. Saturday, November 15.  Sunrise Ceremony / Cusco

7:00 AM - onwards – Breakfast in the hotel dining room.
NOTE: Check out time for the hotel is 9:00AM. Please turn in your room key, pay tonight for any charges that you have billed to your room, and be in the lobby with your luggage at this time. Diego will try to obtain one room that the entire group can use during the day, and where you can store your luggage until you depart for the train in the afternoon. If he is unable to obtain a room, then all of the luggage will be stored in the hotel’s luggage room and you will have access to it throughout the day.

11:00 AM – Brunch in Augas Calientes
12:00 PM – Be in the lobby with your luggage, ready to depart to walk to the train station.
1:30 PM - Board the afternoon train to Ollantaytambo.
3:00 PM - Arrive in Ollantaytambo and transfer to a private bus for the return to Cusco.
5:00 PMArrive in Cusco and check into the hotel. Time for rest and exploration on your own before your group dinner.
7:30 PM – Celebration Dinner in Cusco’s Central Plaza.
9:00 PM – Explore the Cusco Nightlife or Rest.

-Day 10. Sunday, November 16. Pt. Maldonado / Fourth Ceremony



6:00 AM Breakfast in the hotel dining room
7:00 AM - Luggage outside your door and pay for any charges you have billed to your room. Turn in your room key and be in the lobby with your carry-on luggage.
9:00 AMDepart for the airport and check in for your flight to Pt. Maldonado.
11:00 AM – Depart on flight _____________ to Pt. Maldonado/Arrive
12:00 PM – Arrive at Puerto Maldonado, look for ‘Corto Maltes Amazonian Lodge’ Buses
1:00 PM Check in at Amazonian Lodge offices
1:30 PM Take buses to Madre de Dios river & then take private boats to the Amazonian Lodge

2:00 PMExcursion or Rest period – Take a guided walk through the "trochas" (trails) in the Amazon Rainforest. On the hike we will see a variety of exotic birds, tropical flowers and medicinal plants. We will learn about how the plants are used in local Amazon traditions.

-Day 12. Tuesday, November 18. Sandoval Lake / Fifth Ceremony

10:00 AM - Visit Monkey Island & Sandoval lake - By boat we will go on an 8 kilometer ride via the river Madre de Dios to get to the Isla De Los Monos (Monkey Island). On the island we will make contact with several different species of monkey such as Fraile, Pichicos, Orana and Capuchinos. There is also a 5 kilometer hike through a mysterious forest which ends at the LakeSandoval, inhabited by river otters, fish, piranhas, tropical birds, monkeys and a large variety of tropical fauna and flora. We can swim and look for animals in the lake during the afternoon. After rowing the lake we will return to Corto Maltés for a well-deserved rest.
